Three Things You Should Junk This Fall

Broken Furniture Junk - Gorilla Bins

The change of the seasons is a great time to take stock of your belongings and get rid of what you don’t need. Here are a few ideas of items to junk this fall, and how to get rid of them.

Summer Clothes

Many of us accumulate too many clothes we don’t wear. At the end of the summer, you’ll want to make room in your closet for fall clothes. Taking everything out and sorting according to how often you wore it can yield surprising results. It may be that you haven’t touched half your summer wardrobe.

The great thing about clothes is that there are always people in need. Charities will often organize clothing pick up times. You can put clothing and other household items in garbage bags, and they will come right to your door to pick everything up. Just make sure you check what kind of items they accept before handing them over.

Thrift stores like Goodwill and Value Village also accept donated clothes. For designer, or nice vintage, you can look into vintage consignment stores, or clothing exchanges like The Kind Exchange, which offer cash or store credit for your clothing.

Anything Broken!

Things like pool toys, patio furniture and accessories, and summer sports equipment should soon be put away until next year. This is a good time to sort through everything and decide what you want to keep. There’s no use in storing broken things in your garage for a year.

Items that are beyond repair can be taken to the dump, or you can arrange with your garbage collection for bulk garbage pickup. If you have a lot of items to dispose of, you may want to consider renting a bin.

If anything can be salvaged, consider donating it to a thrift store or charity that takes those kinds of items.

Disused Bicycles

Maybe your child has outgrown their bicycle this year, or maybe you have an old one lying around that is beyond repair. Many bike stores accept second-hand bikes, and may even take broken or old bicycles off your hands to use for parts.

Additionally, you could advertise the bicycles for sale, or free in your local bike shop, or online.

The end of the summer is a great time to purge your junk. Take advantage of the warm weather to clean and organize your garage once and for all. Next spring, you’ll be glad you did!
